Invisible Street

the

Immersive guided tour through the former Grenadierstraße

in Berlin-Mitte

Background

When you walk through Berlin's hip and trendy Scheunenviertel today, it's difficult to imagine its past. During the early 20th century, this area was characterized by poor immigrants, crime, and sex work, a stark contrast to its current state. A vibrant center of Jewish culture and life, it served as the epicenter of the Yiddish language, religious facilities and plenty of Kosher food offers. And in parallel, of unprecedented violence. I was intrigued by one street in particular, Grenadierstraße, but could not locate it on any of the contemporary maps.
